George Weisskopf, son of John and Katie Weisskopf, was born at Homestead July 19, 1875. His family moved to a farm southeast of Victor, when he was eight years old, he attended the country school and united with the Immanuel Methodist church. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Katherine Fetzer Nov. 23, 1889, and they farmed in the community until the spring of 1916 when they moved to Victor where he has since made his home. Mrs. Weisskopf passed away May 21, 1939. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Bertha Sherwood of Victor June 29, 1940. He was a member of the First Methodist church of Victor and the Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges. When he first came to Victor he was employed by William Walters in the implement business for many years. During his later years he was custodian of the Methodist church, the American Legion hall the the I.O.O.F. lodge hall. His health had been failing for some time, but he kept at his work as long as he could. He became bedfast Apr. 27, 1954. His wife and family cared for him in the home until November 1956 when he was taken to the Lone Elm rest home in Grinnell. He died Wednesday afternoon, June 26, 1957. He is survived by his wife and step children, Mrs. Charles Goettsch, Marengo; Mrs. Cecil Davis, Victor/ Mrs. Helen Hill, Buffalo, NY; Mrs. Norma Wilson, Washington state; Mrs. Frances Hull, Victor, and Howard Sherwood of San Tierce, Puerto Rico; one brother, Dan Weisskopf of Ladora and 24 grandchildren. His parents, one brother, one sister and a step son preceded him in death.
