| Description | : | Born near Siler, Virginia to Lottie and Holmes Whitacre. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1936. He also attended Shepherd College on a foootball scolarship. While at Shepherd he met his future wife, Virginia Lee Miller and they were married in 1940. George Whitacre began his teaching career at Woodstock Virginia. He served as a Military Policeman in WWII. He resumed his teaching after the war at Front Royal Virginia and then from1946 to 1982 he taught at Martinsburg High School.
