Description	:	HAYS — George Butler, 76, died April 10 at the Good Samaritan Center of Hays. He was born Nov. 5, 1933, at Paris, Ark., to Carlos W. and Alta (Dorrough) Butler. He married Elila Jean (Schmidt) on Nov. 3, 1956, at Pfeifer. She died Aug. 1, 1984. Mr. Butler was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a farmer while he lived in Argonia for 12 years. Read More	HAYS — George Butler, 76, died April 10 at the Good Samaritan Center of Hays. He was born Nov. 5, 1933, at Paris, Ark., to Carlos W. and Alta (Dorrough) Butler. He married Elila Jean (Schmidt) on Nov. 3, 1956, at Pfeifer. She died Aug. 1, 1984. Mr. Butler was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a farmer while he lived in Argonia for 12 years. He lived in Russell and was a mechanic and owned a Phillips 66 service station. He was a truck driver for Fuller Brush Company and lived in Great Bend for 15 years, and moved to Hays in May of 2005. He was a living historian at Fort Larned National Historic Site near Larned. He entered the Good Samaritan Center of Hays in 2007. Survivors include three sons, Mike Eugene Butler and wife Sheryl, Hays, Gary Lee Butler and wife Jennifer, Orlando, Fla., and Alan J. Butler and wife Tanya, Hays; two daughters, Karla Jean Dick and husband Norbert, of Milton, and Mary Lou Stokes and husband Jeff, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, C.W. Butler and wife Carole, Great Bend; one sister, Rita Waechter and husband Harold, Amarillo, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Martin Dick, Randy Dick, Scott Dick, Kelsey Butler, Ashley Butler, Elila Butler, Cameron Butler, Kaitlyn Lisenby, Andrew Lisenby, Abigail Stokes and Hannah Stokes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pfeifer. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Pfeifer, with military honors by the Hays VFW Post No. 9076. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Great Bend Tribune, April 21, 2010
