Armstrong , Trimble. Va. Highland Recorder September 11, 1958 George William Armstrong, 86, a lifelong resident of Big Valley, died at the C&O Hospital, Clifton Forge, Thursday, Sept. 4. Born in Highland on May 8, 1873, he was a son of the late John M. and Ester Hamilton Armstrong and was a farmer. He was a charter member of Highland Chapel, the first Advent Christian Church organized in Virginia and was a charter member of the Virginia Conference of Advent Chrstian Churches. Mr. Armstrong's first wife, Mrs. Emma McNett Armstrong, preceded him in death in January 1931 and his second wife, Mrs. Mary L. Dickson Armstrong, died in 1953. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Donald L. Armstrong of Covington and Clement A. Armstrong of Charlottesville. Surviving are two sons. Myron W. Armstrong and Lloyd M Armstrong, both of Covington; two stepsons, Ray Dickson of Florida and Stuart K. Dickson of Bolar; three daughters, Mrs. Edgar Harding and Mrs. Howard Wood, both of Covington and Mrs. Lora Gutshall of Warm Springs; 15 grand children and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Hamilton Chapel Sunday by Rev. George W. Saunders assisted by Rev. Kenneth Andrews. Interment was in Hamilton Chapel Cemetery.
