Author Buried In Prairie Hill Lot. George W. Stimpson was buried in the family lot at Prairie Hill cemetery north of Anamosa last Thursday afternoon. Death last Saturday at Washington, D.C., brought an untimely end at the age of 55 to the famous author and newspaper man who was a native son of Anamosa. Funeral services held at the Congregational church in Anamosa Thursday at 2 p.m. would have pleased George. They were simple and brief – as terse and direct as the classic question and answer style Stimpson utilized in writing his famous books. Rev. Barney. C. Crockett pastor of the Congregational church conducted the first part of the services. Rev, Crockett read a scripture lesson, gave a prayer and read an obituary. Rev. Crockett gave a sermon based on the quality of Stimpson's life and contribution to the world in the way of factual information and history on the Bible and Shakespeare. Rev. Walter D. Wigger, Baptist minister and Chaplin at the Men's reformatory, conducted the balance of the service. He read the prayer given by the Chaplin of the United States Senate at the funeral service conducted Monday at 4 p.m. at Hines Funeral home in Washington D.C. Service was conducted with Mrs. Howard M. Remley singing "The Lord's Prayer". Graveside services were conducted at the family lot at Prairie Hill Cemetery. Casket Bearers Told Casket bearers were newspaper friends of George Stimpson and the doctor who was his boyhood friend. Casketbearers were: Harry Boyd, editor; Frank Nye, associate editor, and Loyal Meek, state editor, all of the of the Cedar Rapids Gazette; Wilbur K. Doxsee, editor of the Monticello Express; Tom Powell, editor of the Journal and Eureka; and Dr. Henry F. Dolan. Body lay in state at Goettsch Funeral home in Anamosa all day Wednesday. It lay in state at the Congregational church Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where hundreds of friends and admirers of the Anamosa author paid their respects. All Anamosa business places closed during the funeral services. Iowa University Aided. Frank Dennis, assistant managing editor of the Washington Post, reported that notes for the third book in a trlology, "A Book About American Government," files and original manuscripts, are to be given to the State University of Iowa. Mr. Dennis was named administrator of the estate in the will. Both Dwight Eisenhower and Gov. Adlai Stevenson had written personal notes of praise to Mr. Stimpson about the book published last May, "A Book About American Politics."
