Mr. Stimpson died Friday night at his home in Anamosa. He had become ill during the day. Conduct Services Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple, Keosauqua and Rev. Barney G. Crockett, Anamosa, were officiating pastors. Burial was made in Prairie Hill cemetery, north of Anamosa. Pallbearers were Presley Hanna, Ed Schimmel, Andrew Watt, Ray Purcell, Hector Bray and A. Parke Ogden. Born in Ohio John Adam Stimpson was born at Dola, Hardin county, Ohio, March 18, 1860. His parents were Thomas and Eliza Fletcher Baker Stimpson, natives of Lincolnshire, England. His childhood was spent at the pioneer log cabin home in Ohio. He attended school there, and at the age of 10 years came to Iowa with his parents, settling in Castle Grove township, Jones county. Traveled With Pioneer This was the time when Kansas was the "frontier state" and the family traveled westward in a covered wagon through Kansas, Oklahoma and into Arkansas before returning to Iowa. Trip took three months and covered 1,900 miles. Upon their return to Castle Grove, his father purchased the land which constitutes the Stimpson homestead, and which still remains in the family. Attended School He attended the rural school at Hickory Grove and town school in Monticello. On Nov. 10, 18S2, he was united in marriage to Anna H. Specht, Castle Grove. They remained on the Stimpson farm and through various purchases added to their holdings. Children Named Four children were born to the union: Thomas, Anamosa, ex-state representative; John, who died in April, 1941; George W., Washington, D.C., noted correspondent and author, and Gladys, Mrs. Wesley G. Bader, Elmhurst, Ill. A sister, Mary, and a brother, Clement, died in childhood. During the year 1923 he retired from active business and moved to Anamosa where he has since lived. Surviving are his wife and three children, six grandchildren and relatives in England and New Zealand.
