She was born August 18, 1921 in Ralston, IA to Willard and Ida Jordan Bates. She married Merle D. Ogren on August 21, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2015. In Ottumwa she worked for Standard Kollsman for a short time and then as a C.N.A. at St. Joseph Hospital where she enjoyed working in the physical therapy department. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Georgia and Merle loved to golf throughout their retirement years. Surviving are two sons, Rev. Mark Ogren and his wife Rev. Margie Turbyfill of Ashland, VA and Gary Ogren and his wife Debra of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ogren of Ashland, VA and Matthew Ogren of Washington, D.C. She was preceded in death by her parents; and five siblings, Gretta Bates, Bernice Gibson, Jewel Eason, Jess Bates and Monroe Bates. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Shrimplin officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
