Description	:	CLAY CENTER --- Georgia W. Hemphill, 94, Clay Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at a Clay Center nursing home. Miss Hemphill was was a retired teacher and school administrator. She began her career in the rural Garfield community in Clay County, and then at McKinley School in Clay Center. She was principal at Lincoln School. She was born Feb. 22, 1905, in Clay Center, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mattie Florence Stewart Hemphill. She earned a master's degree from Kansas State University, and Columbia University in New York City. She also attended universities in Wisconsin, Colorado, Nebraska, Hawaii and London.... And she attended school in Heidelburg, Germany, and American College in Beirut, Lebanon. Miss Hemphill was a member of First Baptist Church in Clay Center, the Order of Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Education Organization. She served on the Clay Center Teachers Association, and the Kansas and National Education associations. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Chapel in Clay Center. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center. Miss Hemphill will lie in state from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Hemphill Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
