OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa May 15, 1928 Gerald Alton Duckworth was born June 6, 1904 at Pekin, Ill., and died at Cherokee, Iowa, May 5, 1928, aged 23 years, 11 months and 4 days. His death resulted from an attack of pneumonia fever. He was the son of Arthur and Minnie Duckworth and was the oldest of a family of six children. His father and mother, together with his three brothers, Carl, Paul and John, his two sisters, Helen and Carrie, his grandmother, Mary Duckworth and many other relatives and friends are left to mourn his going. While never a strong boy, his death came as a shock, having been ill for only one week. His parents and brothers were at his bedside when he passed away. He gained consciousness and recognized them but in spite of all the care that doctors and nurses at the hospital could possibly bestow, he slipped away Saturday morning at 1:30 o'clock. Gerald was loved by all who knew him. His friends were many for with his quiet unassuming ways he won the friendship of all. The greater share of his life was spent in the New York, Iowa community, and his life was an open book to all. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.N. Sours, of the Church of Christ at Corydon, at the Duckworth home near New York on Monday afternoon, May 7, and interment was at the New York cemetery. A mixed quartet furnished the music. The singers were Mesdames Bertha Brewer and Lottie Stark, Messrs. Frank Burton and Ed Laing. The sympathy of innumerable friends will be extended to the sorrowing ones.
