GERALD "RED" DEAN SIGLER Gerald Dean, son of Floyd and Celia (Hupp) Sigler, was born May 9, 1932, at Old Carrollton. After he completed his schooling in Coon Rapids, he worked odd jobs around Coon Rapids until he started working on Garst farms. On May 3, 1953, Red was united in marriage with Rhoda Ann Frownfelter at the Methodist Church in Bagley. They made their home in Coon Rapids. In August of that year Red was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea following the conflict. He was discharged in May of 1955 and returned.to Coon Rapids where he worked on Garst farms for 19 years. In 1958 the family had moved to Bayard. Following his farming years, Red worked at Oscar Mayer in Perry for 21 years until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement, he did seasonal work at Garst Hybrid Seed Co. Red was a hard worker and wanted to be busy 'doing something' all the time. He worked with precious metals for many years and liked to help, with the gardening. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and watching them play cribbage. He had a dog named 'Dog' that he doted on and counted as his best friend. Above all he loved his family and relished spending time with them. Red suffered from heart disease and was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2005. After many cancer free months, it flared up again and took a toll on his health. He died unexpectedly on Friday, September 8, 2006, at his home in Bayard. He was 74 years, 3 months and 30 days of age. Preceding Red in death are his parents, son Gerald "Butch" Sigler, Jr., sister Leona Mae Doty and brother Keith Sigler. He is survived by his wi fe Rhoda Sigler of Bayard; two daughters Peggy and husband Rafael Banderas and Sheila and husband Stephen Melanson both of Council Bluffs; son James Sigler and wife Jerilyn of Bayard; six grandchildren; nine (and one on the way) great-grandchildren; two sisters Donna Weeks and Gary Smouse of Bayard and Bethal Doty of Coon Rapids; brother-in-law Forrest Frownfelter of Tulalip, WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
