Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Gerald Eugene "Gene" Roberts was born on Saturday; March 30, 1929 on a farm in Monroe County, Iowa. Gerald was the youngest of eight children born to Guy and Esther (Ward) Roberts. Gerald received his education by attending Enon Country School and entered Moravia High School but had to quit school to help care for the family farm after his father was laid up. His father's health improved and Gene worked various jobs until he got married. On September 18, 1948, G. E. was united in marriage to Lela Blome at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church (Zion UCC) in Hubbard; Hardin County, Iowa. They resided in Denver, Colorado for two years. Gene began farming once they returned from Colorado. They farmed their entire working lives in Tipton Township. In 1970 Gene added a Pioneer Seed Dealership to his farming operation and operated the dealership until 1988. Gene went into partnership with his son Jeff in the mid-1970's. G. E. served on many boards including the Hubbard Medical Center, Hubbard – Garden City Farmer's Co-op, Hubbard Golf Coarse, Hubbard School Board, Zion Church Council, Hardin County N.R.C.S., Hubbard Care Center and Hardin County Tax Review Board. G. E. was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard and a member of the Elks Lodge #1674 in Iowa Falls. The past 14 years Gene and Lela enjoyed spending time at their winter home in Mission, TX. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards with friends. He wanted to make sure everyone had plenty and enjoyed sharing the bounty of harvest, whether corn or vegetables from the garden, cream can dinners or grapefruit and oranges from Texas, with his friends! Gerald Eugene "Gene" Roberts, age 81, passed away on Wednesday; August 11, 2010 at the Hubbard Care Center Inc. in Hubbard, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Lela of Hubbard, Iowa; his one son: Jeffrey (Rhonda) Roberts of Hubbard, Iowa; his one daughter: Nancy (Lee) Faw of The Woodlands, Texas; his four grandsons: Clay (Kasie) Roberts, Cooper Roberts, Nicholas and Joshua Faw. His one great-granddaughter: Aleighia. His two sisters: Mildred Henderson of Allerton, Iowa and Deena Steinbach of Peru, Illinois. Also many other relatives and a host of friends. G. E. was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Douglas as a child, four brothers: Wendell, Hilbert, Keith and Burdell. Also one sister: Margery. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn.
