Description	:	Gerald G. Carey, 61, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Christus St. Joseph's Hospital-South, Paris, Texas, from complications of diabetes. Jerry was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Longview, Wash. He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Oregon and was employed for many years with Weyerhaeuser Company paper mill at Valliant, Okla. He retired several years ago, and despite serious health problems, still pursued his lifelong interests in cars, racing and World War II history. Jerry is survived by Norma Gregory Carey; his mother, Hazel M. Carey Nelson; his children, Gregg Allen Carey, Wade William Carey and Tiffany Carey; and his stepchildren, Jane McCann Moore, Sydney McCann and Gus Geurian. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Carey Perrigo; and nieces and nephews, William John Carey, Randall Bruce Carey, Vicky Carey Cramer, Eric Perrigo, Craig Perrido and Kurt Perrigo. Other survivors include his dear friends, Doyle and Judy Smith and Steve Oslund. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Max Carey; and his brother, William Walter Carey. A private service for interment of his ashes were held in Longview, Wash., on Oct. 18, 2003. A memorial mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Paris, Texas. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris, Texas, is in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers were Doyle Smith, Steven Oslund, Gus Geurian, Jamey Matthews, William John Carey and Zachary Smith. The family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association. The family wishes to thank Dr. Morris Tobin, and ICU nurses and all the staff at Christus Hospital who cared for Jerry during his long illness. McCurtain Daily Gazette Thursday, October 23, 2003
