A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Antony Thekkekara officiating. Inurnment will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #299 of Spalding, NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary of Spalding, NE is in charge of arrangements. Gerald John Stromp, the son of George and Agnes (Ballweg) Stromp, was born January 3, 1936 in Spalding, NE. Jerry, as he was known by, was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in Spalding and attended Spalding Academy, graduating from there in 1954. On January 29, 1955, Jerry entered the United States Army, serving his nation faithfully, until he was honorably discharged on January 28, 1957. Following his military service, Jerry moved to Omaha, NE where he held numerous positions at a local bank and with Pinkerton’s, working as a fraud investigator and later joining the State of Nebraska, working in the fraud investigations division of the Department of Labor. On September 4, 1985, Jerry was united in marriage to Heidi Martha Schutsch in Mexico. Following their marriage the couple continued to reside in Omaha, NE. Jerry was a very kind and generous man, and enjoyed leading an active life, and the occasional game of golf. He was a member of the Catholic faith, the Shriners, and the American Legion. Jerry is survived by his wife of 30 years: Heidi of Omaha, NE; his beloved dog: Lacey; two brothers: Richard (Mary) Stromp and James Stromp, both of Spalding, NE; one sister: Rosemary Shirley of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, George and Agnes Stromp; sister-in-law: Dorothy Stromp; brother-in-law: Glen Shirley; niece: Deborah Stromp; and infant brother: Paul Stromp.
