Gerald Weers, age 80 of Marion, died peacefully Monday evening, April 30, 2012, in Cannon Falls, MN, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Friday morning, May 4, 2012 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents. Gerald John Weers was born, July 26, 1931 at the family farm in Scotch Grove, Iowa. He was the son of John Henry and Louise Catherine Dirks, Weers. Gerald attended Monticello Schools. Gerald married Judith Weighels on February 6, 1955 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello. The couple farmed for many years until Gerald retired due to health reasons, and he and Judy moved to Marion. During his years as a Farmer he also worked as a Cattle Buyer for Kirkwood and worked in Trucking, hauling livestock. Gerald was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He loved horses, his Scottie "Barney", fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. Above all, Gerald loved to spend time with his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by those closest to him.
