Weers of Monticello died Monday, March 14 in the Anamosa Care Center after a long illness. John Henry Weers was born Dec. 6, 1902 at Scotch Grove, the son of Gerd and Anna Harms Weers. He received his education in the rural schools of Wayne Township, Jones County. Following his education, he started farming. John Henry Weers and Louise Catherine Dirks were married June 18, 1925 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Wayne Township on the Weers family farm and also near Center junction. In 1953, the couple moved to Monticello and he continued to farm. His wife died on April 15, 1978. He retired from farming in 1979 and for several years was employed at the Pallet Factory in Monticello. Weers was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church Survivors include a son, Gerald of Marion; and a daughter, Elverna Arduser of Monticello. Also surviving are six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Casket bearers were Luverne Plueger, LaVerne Kuhns, Dean Hayen, Max Dirks, Glenn Tobiason and Mike Jacobs. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
