Jerry was born July 27, 1945 at Broken Bow, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to Robert (Keith) and Dorothy M. "Dot" (Bailey) Broadfoot. The family made their home at Lakeside, Nebraska, where he received his primary education. Read More	Gerald Keith (Jerry) Broadfoot, 72 years of age, of Beaver City, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at his home in Beaver City. Jerry was born July 27, 1945 at Broken Bow, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to Robert (Keith) and Dorothy M. "Dot" (Bailey) Broadfoot. The family made their home at Lakeside, Nebraska, where he received his primary education. Jerry then commuted the twenty-three miles to Alliance, Nebraska to school, where he graduated from Alliance High School with the class of 1963. Following his education, Jerry worked in the hay fields around Lakeside, until he was inducted into the United States Army on October 4, 1965. He served his country in Vietnam, until returning home and his honorable discharge on October 3, 1969. In 1968, he was united in marriage to Nancy Casteel, and to this union two children were born: Shelley and Jared. The family made their home between Halsey and Dunning Nebraska, where Jerry began his life-long passion of being a ranch hand and raising cattle. Jerry was also employed by the United States Postal Service in Gering, Nebraska. In the early 1980's, Jerry resided in Oxford area, where he continued his work as a ranch hand. Following the passing of his mother in 2008, Jerry relocated to Beaver City, where he resided until his passing. Jerry was truly in every sense of the word, an outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, and fish; especially catfish. Jerry had a special interest in numismatics; and enjoyed all sports, especially Nebraska athletics. He loved watching old Western movies, and was very knowledgeable about many subject matters. He was an avid reader, and could often be referred to as a "walking encyclopedia" by his family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to celebrate his life; his special friend, Dorothy Bottrell of Beaver City; his two children: Shelley Roesch and her husband, Kraig of Byers, Colorado, and Jared Broadfoot of Broken Bow, Nebraska; three grandchildren; his three siblings: Nina Bratcher and her husband, Darroll Crabb of Johnstown, Colorado; Butch Broadfoot and his wife, Janet of Gering, Nebraska; and Larry Broadfoot and his wife, Debra of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Graveside Services for Gerald K. (Jerry) Broadfoot will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Nebraska with Mr. Bill Weaver officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Oxford American Legion Post #219 in conjunction with the United States Army Military Honors Team. Jerry's grand-nephew, Cody Broadfoot will be conducting Taps on bugle. The Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford is in charge of the arrangements.
