Jerry was born October 9, 1923, in Merna, Nebraska, the son of Merle and Della (Cox) Parr. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1941. Parr, 87, died on August 20, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice after a short illness. Jerry was born October 9, 1923, in Merna, Nebraska, the son of Merle and Della (Cox) Parr. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1941. Jerry was married to Kathleen Smith for 59 years; she passed away in 2002. His career was in the auto parts business, and he lived in Kearney, Hastings, Lincoln, and for the past thirty-seven years in Beatrice. Jerry served in the U.S. Coast Guard in WW II and was a proud member of the American Legion and VFW. Survivors are a son, Gerald Dennis and wife, Marlys of Lubbock, Texas; a daughter Linda Young and her husband, Jerry of New Port Richey, Florida; a son, Brad and his wife, Kelly of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado; his sister, Gloria McCarthy, and her husband, Verne of Brookings, South Dakota; and three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a grandson. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor Dr. Jimmy Shelbourn officiating. Graveside services will be at the Merna Cemetery, Merna, Nebraska on Thursday, August 25th at 1:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice, the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice, or the Beatrice Humane Society with the mortuary in charge.
