Description	:	Gerald Ter Haar, 72, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Tuesday morning, March 4, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A Memorial Service was held Friday, March 7, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of First Reformed Church of Sioux, Center, with Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Gerald Stanley Ter Haar was born near Sioux Center, Iowa to Henry and Grace (Van Otterloo) Ter Haar on March 12, 1930. He was raised in Sioux center and attended Sioux Center Christian School. On February 26, 1952 he entered the US Army. Gerald served two years stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he returned to the Sioux Center area where in the late 1950,s he began working for Hyman's Construction. He was united in marriage to Nelva De Vos on May 22,1964 in Sioux Center. They were later divorced. Later as an employee of Hyman's Construction Co. Gerald had the opportunity to become one of the co-owner's of the business until the mid 1980's. Gerald retired in the late 1980's. Gerald had many interests to fill his spare time. He was an avid gun and coin collector, and enjoyed owning vintage cars. He also spent time building model cars. He liked fishing and hunting, and taking rides in the countryside. He was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center along with the Doornink-Brunsting Post 199, American Legion and VFW Post 6129. He served as treasurer of Hyman's Pit Fishing Club and was proud to be a card carrying member of the National Rifle Association. Surviving is his son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Debra Ter Haar of Sioux Center and daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Henry Sandbulte of Sioux Center along with his six grandchildren: Sadie, Angela and Anthony Ter Haar and Eric, Austin and Sarah Sandbulte. Gerald is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Roger Bolks of Sioux Center; brother and sister-inlaw, Don and Irene Ter Haar of Albuquerque, NM and nine nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Philip Ter Haar and his granddaughter, Danielle Sandbulte. Siouxland Express 2003-03-12.
