Read More	Two Youths Killed In Traffic Crash Victims Are Lee Haverhals and Philip TerHaar A mass of twisted steel was all that remained of the '38 Plymouth in which Lee Haverhals and Philip Ter Haar met death early Sunday morning on highway 10 just west of the million dollar corner. The boys were returning from a party at Hawarden when, their car plunged from the highway at the west end of the bridge and traveled through the air some 80 feet, gliding on the east bank of West Branch Creek. Sheriff Dykstra of Orange City said a smashed watch on the wrist of one of the boys stopped at 3:15 A.M. A wrecker was required to pull the machine apart in order to extricate the crushed bodies of the victims which were removed to Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home. Some nine hours passed before the wreck was discovered. About noon Sunday a truck of the cab-over-engine style came by and because of its height, the driver was able to see the wreckage below the concrete bridge where it had escaped the notice of regular car traffic. United funeral services were held here Wednesday in the First Reformed Church, with Reverend P. DeJong officiating. Private services for the family of Philip Ter Haar were held at Vander Ploeg's funeral home prior to the church services. The Haverhals family held private services at the home of Mrs. Grace Haverhals. Philip TerHaar attended high school here until his I6th year when he went to work at Joe's Cafe. After a little over two years there he took a job at Wandscheers factory. Philip is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ter Haar, two brothers, Gerald and Donald, and one sister, Helen. Leonard Haverhals is the son of Mrs. Grace Haverhals. He attended high school here for a short time and went to work at Ed's grocery where he was employed for about three years. This past summer he worked on a farm, and just recently joined Joe Sandbulte's excavation crew. He is survived by his mother, four brothers, Colin R., John P., Peter A., and A. Marlow, and one sister, Geraldine (Mrs. Clifford DeMots). Sioux Center News 1950-10-12.
