The Lord called him home to Heaven on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. He was 91. Read More	Gerald William Garner, son of Harry Lawrence and Edith Lucille Reed Garner was born April 6, 1927 at Osceola in Clarke County, Iowa. The Lord called him home to Heaven on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. He was 91. Gerald attended country grade schools at Buzzard Roost and Oak Grove in Clarke County and graduated from Osceola High School in 1946. After high school, Gerald worked at what is now Clarke Electric Cooperative from 1948 - 1951. Gerald married Arlene Edwards September 10, 1948 at the old Christian Church in Osceola. They lived in an apartment in the upstairs of Ralph and Marie Kimmel's house before moving to the Garner farm, north of Osceola, where they raised their daughter, Dorothy. Gerald accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1951 at a crusade by Evangelists Paul Livene and Bob Finley at the Community Bible Church in Osceola, which is now Calvary Bible Church. Gerald farmed his parent's farm for 10 years before starting work at Solar Aircraft in Des Moines. He later started his own business, Garner Trenching, doing trenching, backhoe and field drainage work. He is remembered by many as the best man on a backhoe. Gerald retired from Garner Trenching when he was 66. After retiring, he became interested in restoring antique tractors eventually specializing in John Deere Model L tractors. He and Arlene attended various antique tractor shows around the states of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri, where they met and became friends with many wonderful people. This resulted in Gerald sponsoring a "Thursday Night in the Park" in Osceola, where he invited friends to show their antique tractors around the city square in 1997. Which, resulted in starting the Clarke County Old Iron Club, where Gerald was the founder of the club and held the position of president of the club for the first five years. In September 1998, Gerald and Arlene rode in style to their 50th wedding anniversary open house at the Clarke Electric meeting room, in a scale model John Deere wagon, which Gerald had made and was pulled by Gerald's 1940 John Deere Model L tractor. Gerald hosted the Vintage Lawn and Garden Tractor Trail Riders in 2005 to 2013, to trail rides on his farm through the timber and ending with a picnic in the timber and was enjoyed by many friends and made new friends each year. After Arlene's passing, Gerald married Doris White on June 14, 2008 at a John Deere themed wedding at East Lake Park after a Vintage. Lawn and. Garden Tractor Trail ride in the park. Gerald and Doris enjoyed traveling to many tractor shows around Iowa and in Missouri. They also enjoyed vacationing in Florida and many bus trips including a bus trip to Washington, D.C., Missouri and trips in the state of Iowa. Gerald was a charter member of Community Bible Church, which is now Calvary Bible Church, Land Improvement Contractors of Iowa, founder of Clarke County Old Iron Club, member of the 2-Cylinder Club, Old Tyme Power Club and several other tractor clubs. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene; his parents; brother, Wayne Garner; parents-in-law, Ralph and Dorothy Edwards; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Bertha Edwards and brother-in-law, Wally Edwards. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris of Osceola; daughter, Dorothy and husband, Keith Bowlsby of Osceola; brother, Norman Garner of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Norma and husband, Bruce Erickson of Fertile, MN.; step-children Barbara and Doyce DeVore of Osceola; Debbie and Mike Owen of West Branch, IA; Ron and Sue White of Ames, IA; Greg and Donna White of Atlanta, GA; and Jeff and LeAnn White of Olatha, KS, sister-in-law, Irene Stalcup and her husband Clarence of Tingley, IA, sister-in-law, Bea Edwards of Colorado, many nieces and nephews, 12 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren, special friend, Ed Adcock, other relatives and a host of friends.
