Read More	Geraldine "Gerry" Scheierman Ackermann was born April 23, 1921, to John and Selma Pope Scheierman in Shickley. Gerry passed away on April 4, at the Fillmore County Hospital. Gerry was just a few weeks shy of celebrating her 97th birthday. Gerry graduated from Shickley High School in the Class of 1938. Gerry met Armin Ackermann during the war years. Gerry traveled with Armin's family to where he was stationed in Texas to be married. They were married on September 14, 1942, she was a war bride. After the wedding, the family visited the zoo and Gerry's hat blew off into the bear enclosure. Gerry would be by Armin's side every time he received new orders. She would follow him to the new base, find them a place to live and make it their new home. After the war, Gerry and Armin returned to Nebraska and initially lived in Fairmont before settling in Geneva. This is where Gerry began her most important role as mother to their most treasured only daughter, Carolyn. They were a devoted family and lived their lives for one another. Gerry worked throughout the years, most notable as the manager of Hested's in Geneva. Gerry also worked at the Geneva Senior Center as an employee and volunteer. Gerry was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In 1982, she joined the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veteran's of Foreign Wars through the Samuel J. Marsh Post No. 7102, under the eligibility of her husband, Armin. He was a veteran of WWII and served in North Africa. Gerry also supported her daughter Carolyn's work with the Fillmore County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. Gerry also was an active member of the First Congreational United Church of Christ. She played an integral role in their annual Thanksgiving dinner. She organized, cooked, served and did everything possible to make this event a success year after year. Gerry was a loving wife and mother, a beloved aunt, a loyal friend and a committed community volunteer. Family was at the center of her life. Her home was always open with a well-cooked meal and warm, loving hospitality. Her guests always counted themselves lucky if there was a butterscotch pie on the table. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Work as if it was your first day. Forgive as soon as possible. Love without boundaries. Laugh without control and never stop smiling. Gerry is survived by many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. A funeral service for Geraldine was held on April 9, at the First Congregational Untied Church of Christ in Geneva, with Pastor Stuart Davis officiating. Organist Nancy Cradduck accompanied the congregation as they sang, "How Great Thou art," "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Graveside services were held at the Sutton Cemetery.
