She spent her early years in the Soldier community and graduated from Soldier High School in 1934. After earning a Normal Training Teachers Certificate and attending summer sessions at Emporia and KSU, she taught seven years in Jackson County Schools. On June 22, 1940 she was united in marriage to Lyle Tolin. He died March 4,1984. They spent most of their married life in the Holton Community.... She spent her early years in the Soldier community and graduated from Soldier High School in 1934. On June 22, 1940 she was united in marriage to Lyle Tolin. He died March 4,1984. They spent most of their married life in the Holton Community. To this union were born three sons. After the children were grown, Jean spent 12 years with USD 336 in the Foods department. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holton, United Methodist Women and Adult Sunday School class. She was a Menninger Bible Class Alumni and belonged to Orchard Grove Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; parents, Gottlieb and Dora Sigg; brother, Robert Sigg; sister, Helen Duffy; son, Gregg Robert "Teapot" Tolin and three baby brothers. She is survived by sons, Daryl(Julia) Tolin of Holton KS, Bryce Tolin of Coral Gables FL; and daughter-in-law, Patty Tolin of Topeka KS; sister, Marjorie Willis of Oakdale, LA; five grandchildren, Deanna(Todd) Flott of Carrollton,TX, Darren(Val) Tolin of Topeka KS, Patrick(Kate) Tolin of Lawrence, KS, Lindsay(Damon) Parker of Merriam, KS and Zane Tolin of Coral Gables FL, five great-grandchildren, Camryn and Kendall Flott, Skyler Tolin, Strother and Maura Tolin. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to services. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
