Description	:	Geraldine L. (Mott) Carlson died Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas. Geraldine was born to Frank and Minnie Mott on July 4th, 1922. She was the 4th of 5 children and was born and raised on a farm northeast of Spencer, NE. As a young girl she delivered milk to houses in town with a milk wagon pulled by 2 horses. Read More	Geraldine L. (Mott) Carlson died Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas. Geraldine was born to Frank and Minnie Mott on July 4th, 1922. She was the 4th of 5 children and was born and raised on a farm northeast of Spencer, NE. As a young girl she delivered milk to houses in town with a milk wagon pulled by 2 horses. After she stabled her horses, she ran the three blocks to get to school. She graduated in 1939 from Spencer (NE.) High School. After high school she taught two memorable years in a one-room school house in Knox County, NE. Gerry was united in marriage with Donald J. Carlson on June 4th ,1941 and they were blessed with two children- Richard Ray in 1942 and Donna Rae in 1948. After they married, they began to move around with Don's construction work. Gerry came home to Spencer, NE. with Richard to help her parents on the farm while Don was overseas during World War II. Through the years they made 52 moves to different places throughout the United States and Canada. Gerry was a homemaker and was known for her wonderful cooking and baking- especially her family favorite cinnamon rolls. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Family was very important to her and she was very proud of all of them. She especially loved visiting with her family and many friends in Spencer. Wherever they lived, Gerry would find a plot of ground to put in a garden. She loved gardening and taking care of her yard. She had a real green thumb and "If she touched it, it grew". Gerry also was an enthusiastic antique collector and she had many lovely antiques. Through the years, Gerry became interested in financial investments and she became a wise and experienced investor. In the last few years, she did a lot of coin collecting which had been one of Don's hobbies. Gerry and Don made their final move back to Spencer, NE. in 1992 and they both said it was the best move that they ever made. Since they were both born and raised in Spencer, NE., it was great to come home at last after 50 years of moving. They both were involved in establishing the Highland House Assisted Living along with other shareholders. She spent a very enjoyable year in residency there before moving to Texas to live with her daughter and son-in-law five years ago. While with them she blessed them by handling all the cooking while Donna was teaching. Gerry maintained her home in Spencer, NE. and enjoyed her twice a year visits to come home to see her friends. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spencer, NE. and was an active member of the UMW where she had a card ministry to send greetings to members on special days each month. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Gerry was involved with the Spencer (NE.) Alumni Association for almost 20 years and kept meticulous records of deceased alumni throughout the year to be remembered at the annual Alumni Banquet. It was especially important to her that those deceased people be respectfully remembered. Gerry was a loving wife to her husband Don for 59 wonderful years until he passed away in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Richard Carlson; parents, Frank and Minnie Mott and all of her siblings, Hester, Lawrence, Raymond and Donald and all of their spouses. Gerry will be buried at Union Cemetery, Spencer, NE. where her husband Don Carlson is buried and also her parents, one set of her grandparents, her in-laws plus many more relatives and friends.
