The daughter of John B. and Ida Christina Wilhelmina Samson Ruby, she was born in Ragan, Neb., Aug. 23, 1908, and she and her twin brother, Milo, were among 11 children in the family. She attended grade school in Fontanelle and Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1927. Her marriage to Noel G. Raper took place at the home of her parents Dec. 24, 1927, and they farmed in the Fontanelle and Greenfield area until March 1934, when they moved to Greenfield. They raised a family of three girls and six boys. They remained in Greenfield until 1968, when her husband began work as a city policeman, working in Winterset, Waukee and Dexter. Her husband died in May 1975 and she later moved to Anita to be near a daughter, Dee Carns. In 1977 she moved to Glendale, Ariz., and resided there until March of last year when she went to live with her daughter, Karen Long. She enjoyed writing and reciting poems and had two books of prose and poetry printed. She had given many readings to groups and clubs. Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Deloris and Harold Carns of Anita, Karen and Ronald Long of Phoenix; five sons and their spouses, Dick Raper of Mira Loma, Calif., John and Phyllis of Hungry Horse, Mont., Ernest and Sally of Fayettsville, N.C., Jerry and Edie of Phoenix, Dan and Betty of Denison. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Ralph Lane of Greenfield and his wife, Pat; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Helen Ruby of Udall, Mo., and Naomi Alloway of Cherokee; nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Phyllis Lane; a son, Keith Raper; her parents; a grandson; a granddaughter; one great-grandson; 10 brothers and sisters. Rev. Tom Hobson will officiate at the service. Hallie Kingery will orgainst and Lorinda Patchin will be vocalist. Mullen Funeral Home of Anita is in charge of arrangements.
