Read More	Geraldine May Hughes, youngest daughter of Howard and Leafe Ann Hughes of Norwalk, Iowa, was born June 15, 1913, and passed away in Gotham hospital, New York City, N.Y., Nov. 9, 1937. Her age was 24 years, 4 months and 25 days. Geraldine graduated from the Norwalk high school in 1931, after which she spent two years in Simpson college. Four years ago she went to New York City to make her home with her sister, Mrs. Harry Donahue. There she was successfully employed until ill health compelled her to discontinue her work. Bravely, as her illness grew more serious, did she battle for life, but despite all that medical skill could provide, and the watchful care of prayerful nurses could give, the Great Physician kindly came and tenderly closed her eyes in sleep. Geraldine in her teens, attending faithfully Bible school and the services of the church, accepted Christ as her Saviour, and became a member of the Church of Christ at Norwalk, Iowa. She was the youngest child of a family of nine. There were two boys and seven girls. The oldest girl, Grace, Mrs. Russell Laird, Sidney, Iowa, preceded her in death. Surviving are: Thomas, Norwalk; Lida Belle, Mrs. Donald Shaw, Indianapolis, Ind.; Hazel, Mrs. Edwin Crawford, Sidney, Iowa; Lowell, Mt. Vernon, Wash.; Frances, Mrs. Don Devine, Columbia City, Ind.; Ila, Mrs. Harry Donahue, New York, N.Y.; Marian, Mrs. Charles Lees, Los Angeles, Calif. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. The Hughes family, like many others, are widely separated by distance, but they are not separated in the tender memories of home. There is no distance when death comes. The sorrow of one is the sorrow of all. Children and parents all together today are helping to bear each other's burdens. Geraldine was young in years. Her life was before her, and in its battle with her face towards the foe, she made her last adventure. Beautiful in face and form, smiling in the midst of pain, with a prayer on her lips she fell asleep. Though dead yet she speaks, and we all believe she has not died in vain. The funeral was held in the Church of Christ, Norwalk, Ia., conducted by the pastor, the Rev. A.N. Simpson. The Rev. B.W. McEldowney, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, assisted. Interment was in the Norwalk cemetery.
