Description	:	Gerben De Vries, 93, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. De Vries was born May 4, 1910, to Henry and Jennie (Vermeer) De Vries, near Sioux Center. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Sioux Center and attended country school through the eighth grade. On June 14, 1934, he married Agnes Vande Brake at her home in Sioux Center. The couple farmed northeast of Sioux Center and were blessed with two daughters. Agnes passed away Sept. 22, 1951. He married Lena Kamerman on Nov. 12, 1952. A little girl was born June 8, 1954 and passed away July 25, 1954. He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, an elder and deacon. During his retirement, he was faithful in visiting many shut-ins and grieving families. He also drove a school bus for 16 years for the Sioux Center Community School. His Lord and his church meant much to him. He enjoyed being with his family and was especially fond of attending his grandsons activities. He also kept fit by riding his bike and walking. He was also in death by his infant daughter, Jan Anita De Vries; his parents; and an infant brother, Gerben De Vries. -Obituary from The Sioux City Journal (9/11/2003)
