Ben Kenkel and George Kenkel and wife Bonnie of Harlan and Joe Kenkel and wife Loretta of Earling; 3 sisters: Bernice Bissen of Harlan, Sister Kathleen Kenkel of LaCrosse, WI and Elaine Staley of Denison. Friends may call 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, July 18th, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak with a Rosary at 4:30 and a prayer service at 6:45 pm. The Huebner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. --- Germaine Lucy Staley was born January 7, 1931, in rural Earling, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Antoinette Kenkel. She passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at Reed Place in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight. Germaine was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. She graduated from St. Joseph School in Earling in 1948 and was employed in Dr. W. Kiehlbough’s office in Earling for one and one-half years before her marriage. On April 9, 1953, Germaine was united in marriage to Donald Staley at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling. The couple settled on a farm near Earling until 1959, when they purchased a farm south of Charter Oak, Iowa. Their six children: Janet, Tom, Rick, Dean, Allen and Paul, all grew up on the farm and helped with the daily chores and field work. They enjoyed riding their bikes, horses and motorcycles in the wide open country. Throughout the years, many 4-H and FFA cattle were fed and trained in the yards to be shown at the local fairs. The family took pride in lending a helping hand. The family also enjoyed attending all the school and church activities together. In 1994, Don and Germaine moved into Charter Oak. Once a month, Germaine would visit with the neighborhood ladies at the Chit Chat Club meetings. Don and Germaine enjoyed playing “500" with the card club they joined after moving to the Charter Oak area. Germaine was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak and a member of the Altar Society. Germaine and Elaine were avid Euchre player. Germaine was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; one brother, Robert; one sister-in-law, Maxine; and two brothers-in-law, Leonard and Marvin. Survivors include: one daughter, Janet and her husband, David; five sons, Tom and his wife, Karen; Rick and his wife, Julie; Dean and his wife, Sharon; and Allen and his wife, Peggy; and Paul and his wife, Kim; nineteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fr. Ben and George and his wife, Bonnie, and Joe and his wife, Loretta; three sisters, Bernice, Sister Kathleen, and Elaine (Germaine’s twin); other relatives and friends. ---
