Gertie was born on November 13, 1913 in rural Shell Rock, the daughter of Ben R. and Grace Schoon Jaspers. She had worked at Peterson's Restaurant and Panzer Produce, both in Shell Rock until her marriage. She married Arnold Jack Henley on November 30, 1950 at the Unity Church's minister's home. Read More	Gertie Henley, 88, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Friday, January 11, 2002 at the Shell Rock Care Center of natural causes. Gertie was born on November 13, 1913 in rural Shell Rock, the daughter of Ben R. and Grace Schoon Jaspers. She had worked at Peterson's Restaurant and Panzer Produce, both in Shell Rock until her marriage. She married Arnold Jack Henley on November 30, 1950 at the Unity Church's minister's home. After their marriage, they farmed in the Shell Rock area until they retired in 1973. She was a longtime member of the Unity Presbyterian Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. She enjoyed baking, visiting with friends, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters: Mary Peters and her husband, Dave of Janesville, Iowa and Bernita Myers and her husband, Jeff of Shell Rock; six grandchildren: Marcus Peters, Jonathon Myers and his wife, Bethany, Angela Peters, Sarah Behrends and her husband Matthew, Matthew Myers and his special friend Lorrena Coady, and Melissa Myers; four great grandchildren: Jordan Myers, Bailey Myers, Christopher Behrends, and Austin Myers; a brother-in-law, Otto Wilts of Shell Rock and a sister-in-law, Shirley Biekert of Shell Rock and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold in 1979, an infant son, James Arnold, one brother, Ben, two sisters, Minnie Hemingson and Johanne "Jo" Wilts. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 14, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the Unity Presbyterian Church, rural Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Reuben J. Topp officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Unity Presbyterian Church or to the family. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock was in charge of arrangements.
