Description	:	Gertrude A. Shanklin was born November 6, 1883, in Gothenburg, Sweden. She was two years of age on her arrival in this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Swanson. Gertrude and Aleck Shanklin were joined in matrimony in the year of 1924. To this union was born one son, Arlo, who gave his life August 10, 1944, while serving our country during World War Ii overseas. Mr. and Mrs. Shanklin were longtime residents of Fairmont, Neb. She was two years of age on her arrival in this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Swanson. Gertrude and Aleck Shanklin were joined in matrimony in the year of 1924. To this union was born one son, Arlo, who gave his life August 10, 1944, while serving our country during World War Ii overseas. Mr. and Mrs. Shanklin were longtime residents of Fairmont, Neb. Mr. Shanklin preceded her in death on July 3, 1959. Mrs. Shanklin was a member of Eastern Star and Rebekahs. In the past years her sisters, Nettie Madsen, Anna Martenson, Lena Carlson, Augusta Peterson, Josie Gustafson, Marie Martson and a brother, Fred Swanson preceded her in death. Due to ill health, she had made her home at the Fairmont Nursing Home the past few months. She passed away at the Fillmore County Hospital at Geneva, September 2, 1964, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 26 days. She is survived by two step-daughters, Mrs. Violet Foster of Lincoln and Mrs. Clara Baker of Bremerton, Wash. and nine nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Kritner-Farmer Funeral Home in Fairmont at 2 p.m., Friday, September 4, Rev. Leonard Hartwig officiating. Oliver Moul sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden." Mrs. A.P. Stewart was accompanist. Pallbearers were Perry Arbuck, Alfred Jorgensen, Wesley Robbins, George Schepers, Charles Tous and George White. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.
