CLARINDA JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jul 16, 1925 Gertrude Thompson, daughter of R.F. and Elizabeth Thompson was born March 17, 1884, on a farm near New Market. Here she grew to womanhood. Having passed through the public school and graduated from the New Market high school and taught school for some time in the country. She was married to Bert Enfield on Nov 14, 1906. This proved to be a most happy and congenial union, each always thinking of the happiness and welfare of the other. Theirs being an ideal home. She departed this life in this beloved home July 21, 1925, at the age of 41 years, 4 months and 4 days. She united with the M.E. church in New Market under the pastorate of Rev Daniel Pruitt. She lived a very conscientious Christian life, grieving f she thought she had done aught to anyone. She was a charter member of the Social Hour Circle, being much loved and respected by its members. She was a member of the New Market Rebekah lodge, Rebekah Circle and Farmers Union Local of Memory. In these she had many warm friends and will be greatly missed. Besides her husband and parents she leaves to mourn her early and unexpected departure, two sisters, Mrs Olive Dougherty and Mrs Merrill Peterman and one brother, O.L. Thompson. Also an aged father and mother-in-law, all of New Market. It can truly be said of Gertrude, to know her was to love her. The husband and relatives have the sympathy of their many friends. The funeral was held at her late home south of New Market, conducted by Rev F.O. Smith of Nevinville, the Rebekahs taking charge at the grave with their beautiful ceremony. The body was laid to rest in the Memory cemetery beneath a bank of flowers. CLARINDA JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jul 23, 1925
