Description	:	Gertrude married William Kuempel in 1843 in Germany. They immigrated in 1844. They were the parents of Catherine, Helena, Lizzie, Maria, and John. March 15, 1906 - Friday forenoon the funeral of Mrs. Gertrude Kuempel, mother of Mrs. Joseph Feld, took place from S.S. Peter and Paul's church. In spite of muddy roads and the fact that the death was not generally known among the family's host of friends, the attendance was one of the largest seen at any similar occasion attesting the esteem enjoyed by the family. Gertrude Engelskirchen was born at Uebhausen, Reur'b, Coeln, Germany, January 17th, 1822. She was therefore 84 years, 1 month, and 15 days old at the time of her death. In 1843 she was married to Wm. Kuempel and the next year found them in America, pioneers of Troy Grove, Illinois, where they ranked among the most prominent residents. Of the live children born to them the following are dead: Helena, Lizzie, Mary, and John. Her husband preceded her to eternity 16 years ago, since which time she dwelled largely on her farm near the city of Mendota Illinois, later in said city, but for a little over three years with her sole surviving daughter, Mrs Joseph Feld aforesaid. There also survive her nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs Kuempel was a devout Catholic and sought her Master's house when ever she could. A few hours prior to her death she received the viaticum with Christian reverence and devoetion, resigning herself to the Lord's will she commended her soul to his cure. As she was a faithful servant, let us hope that she was received into "everlasting dwellings."
