SPECHT Mrs. Gertrude Harbert Specht passed away at the home of her son Chris. In Buffalo township, Linn county, last Saturday morning, at the age of 87 years and 15 days, following a prolonged illness. Mrs. Specht was born Sept. 18, 1844 at Moolage. Germany. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harbert Gerdes, died when she was nine years old and she, with two younger sisters, were left orphans. These sisters. Mrs. Ihnke Mohlman of Hawarden,Iowa, and Mrs. Gerd Jansen of Germany preceded her in death, several years ago. She was united in marriage to John D. Specht on May 3, 1869. To this union eight children were born, two having died in infancy. The six surviving children are: Mrs. Anna Stimpson of Anamosa. Mrs. Merta Gerdes of Terra Bella, Cal., Herman, of Miami. Fla., John and George of Castle Grove township,and Chris of Buffalo township,Linn County. In 1880 she, with her husband and children,immigrated to America. They settled in Castle Grove township, in this county, where she lived until 1917 when she went to make her home with her son, Chris. Mr. and Mrs. Specht celebrated their golden wedding in 1919. Mr. Specht died four years later. The funeral services for Mrs. Specht were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the Lutheran church in Castle Grove, where she had been a member for 51 years, with Rev. G. Wolf, pastor of that church officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Paul Meyer of Hampton. Interment was made in the Prairie Hill cemetery in the family lot beside her husband.
