Description	:	Gertrude Hilda Westbrook, 84, formerly of rural Wapello, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty. Services were held February 25, 2005 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The Rev. James H. Huston officiated the services. Musical selections were provided by Bev Parsons, organist, and Alana Poage and Sherwood 'Woody' Ross, soloists. Casket bearers were John Weber Jr., Randell Veach, Kermit K. Peterson, Clinton Cocklin, David Hook and Forrest Bartenhagen. Burial is at the Wagner Cemetery, rural Letts. Mrs. Westbrook was born April 13, 1920, in Muscatine, the daughter of Gottfried and Eda Binggeli Laeser. She married Benjamin Westbrook Jr. Nov. 18, 1944, in Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1993. She had attended Muscatine Country Schools. In her early years, she worked at Muscatine Pearl Works and the Celone Plant, both in Muscatine. She became a homemaker and was involved on the farm. She had been active with the Farm Bureau and the Farm Bureau Ladies. She was the last surviving member of the Home Benefit Society. She was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge, Muscatine. Survivors include a daughter, Jeri Bailey and husband, Roger, of Wapello; two grandchildren, Erin Bailey and Daniel Bailey, both students at the University of Iowa, Iowa City; two sisters, Katherine Schuetz of Monroe, Wis., and Esther Westbrook and husband, Robert, of Moline, Ill.; and four brothers, Gottfried Laeser Jr., John Laeser, LeRoy Laeser and wife Lois and Robert Laeser, all of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Elsie Irwin
