Miss Gertrude Horn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Horn, died Saturday night about 9 o'clock at the home of James Frampton, about seven miles southwest of Waterloo, after only a brief illness. The family lives on the old Frank Gallespey [Gillaspey] forty, which they bought two years ago, but the father and daughter had been working at Frampton's the past two weeks hand-picking corn. We learn through relatives that Gertrude had been handpicking corn, with her father and others, in a crib and for two days previous to her death had complained of a headache, but would not stop her work. Saturday evening after supper she complained of not feeling well and laid down on the bed to rest. The folks finally becoming alarmed at her condition telephoned to Dr. Agee of Valley, but before he arrived she died. The coroner was notified and came out Sunday but there was no occasion for an inquest as the physician's examination showed the death was from natural causes. Gertrude Horn was born in Sarpy county on what is known at the Island, August 8, 1887, and died January 28, 1911, aged 23 years, 5 months and 20 days. The family lived on the bottoms until about seven or eight years ago when they moved to Iowa, coming back here two years ago this spring. Gertrude was the only one of five children at home. On son, William, and family live on the farm west of the old Fagin place. Two sons, Frank and Harry, live at Malvern, Iowa. The oldest daughter lives at Leavenworth, Kansas. The mother was in Kansas caring for her daughter there, who was ill, and returned Monday morning with the two sons, Frank and Harry, who with their wives came in from Iowa to attend the funeral. There were no services except at the grave. The funeral cortege passed through Waterloo about three o'clock and was met here by the mother and the others from Iowa. Rev. E. Aston met them a mile or so out of town and accompanied them to the cemetery, where a few appropriate remarks were made. Burial was at Prospect Hill.
