Description	:	ASHBY, GERTRUDE—Gertrude Ferg Ashby, only child of William Christian Ferg and Katie Gerken Ferg, was born at Hepler, Kas., September 20, 1894. She departed this life at Geneva, Neb., July 6, 1964, at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 17 days. She had been seriously ill several months. She moved with her parents to Girard, Kas., in 1902. Read More	ASHBY, GERTRUDE—Gertrude Ferg Ashby, only child of William Christian Ferg and Katie Gerken Ferg, was born at Hepler, Kas., September 20, 1894. She departed this life at Geneva, Neb., July 6, 1964, at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 17 days. She had been seriously ill several months. She moved with her parents to Girard, Kas., in 1902. She graduated from Girard high school in 1912 and attended State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kas., in 1913. She taught school in Girard one year and entered the University of Kansas, graduating in 1918 with honors. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She was employed as city bacteriologist in Topeka, Kas., in 1918-1919. She was united in marriage to Dr. Albert A. Ashby, October 29, 1918, at Independence, Mo. To this union were born two sons, Dr. Charles F. Ashby and Sherman F. Ashby, both of Geneva. The family moved to Fairmont, Neb., in 1919, and moved to Geneva in 1948. She is survived by her husband, two sons, her mother, Katie G. Ferg of Girard, Kas., and four grandchildren. She took a great interest in flowers and books. Mrs. Ashby was a member of the Episcopal church, Daughters of the Nile, a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Auxiliary of the Nebraska State Medical Society, past state delegate to the American Medical Association, past district president of the American Legion Auxiliary, past district president of Woman’s clubs, P. E. O. at Fairmont, O. K. Kensington of Geneva, Women’s Fellowship of the Congregational church at Geneva, and B. B. club of Fairmont. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, July 9, at the Methodist church in Geneva with Rev. Donald E. Overton of Fairbury and Rev. Everett E. Jackman of the Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Robert B. Waring Sr. provided the organ music, with Mrs. William Brinkman of Shickley singing the “Twenty Third Psalm” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers were Ralph Lefler, Francis Schepers and Francis Rose of Fairmont and Hugh F.
