Description	:	Gertrude Rosa Hallmark, fourth child of Daniel and Clarinda Hallmark, was born on the old homestead southwest of Parkerville, KS on March 10, 1875, and departed this life November 07, 1957 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 27 days. Read More	Gertrude Rosa Hallmark, fourth child of Daniel and Clarinda Hallmark, was born on the old homestead southwest of Parkerville, KS on March 10, 1875, and departed this life November 07, 1957 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 27 days. She grew to womanhood on the old homestead, attending school at the old Burton schoolhouse. On February 16, 1898 she was married to John B. Mitchell. To this union was born one daughter, Pauline and one son, Vinton. The first years of their married life were spent on a farm west of Parkerville, where their children were born. In the spring of 1905, they moved to a farm near Gem, in Thomas Co, KS, where they lived for about three years, returning to Morris Co. where she has made her home continuously since. In her young womanhood, she was converted and joined the Neosho Valley Baptist Church, later transferring her membership to the Parkerville Church when the former building was destroyed by a storm. She lived a consistent Christian life and wherever she lived she found a place to worship her master. She was devoted to her home and children and delighted in the companionship of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On February 16, 1948, she and her husband commemorated the 50th anniversary of their married life, surrounded by their friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away December 12, 1951, her parents, three brothers, Emery Edford, William L., and Arthur D.; and one grandson, John William Strom. She leaves to mourn her passing, her two children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Susan Reeves, Mrs. Clara Haun, and Mrs. Mable Quilhot, five sister-in-laws, four brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. "There is no death, those gone before have just stepped through an open door, just passed into a land unseen, still near, with just a wall between. The door may close, the wall conceal, but nothing's lost that's truly real. They still are ours, those loved ones all, they wait for us beyond the wall." Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Parkerville Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Cecil Haun officiating, assisted by Rev. Frank Parker. She was laid to rest in the Parkerville Cemetery.
