Read More	Pauline Esther Mitchell was born August 14, 1899 in Parkerville, Morris Co, KS and died April 25, 1988 in Valley View Professional Care Center, Junction City, Geary Co, KS. She married Charles Hugo Strom June 09, 1920 in Morris Co, son of William Strom and Sophromia Castleberry. Pauline Esther Strom, first child of John B. and Gertrude Hallmark Mitchell, was born on a farm two miles west of Parkerville on August 14, 1899, and departed this life on April 25, 1988, at the Valley View Professional Care Center in Junction City, KS. In the spring of 1905, she, with her parents and brother traveled in a covered wagon to a farm near Gem, in Thomas County, KS, where they lived in a sod house. She began grade school at Gem. About three years later, they returned to Morris County to make their permanent home. She then attended grade school at White City and later at the Burton and Haun rural grade schools. She began high school in White City and transferred to Parkerville when the high school was organized there, where she graduated. She was very proud of the fact that she was the first graduate of the first Rural High School in the State of Kansas, graduating May 17, 1917. On June 6, 1987, she attended the Parkerville Alumni Reunion, celebrating her seventieth graduation anniversary. After graduation from high school, she taught school at the Haun, Central and Hurino rural grade schools. She was united in marriage to Charlie Strom on June 9, 1920. They later farmed near Wilsey and then moved to their farm near Parkerville in 1936. This was their home until 1971 when her husband's health forced them to retire and move to Parkerville. She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1970. They were the parents of four children, Charlene Garr of Strong City; John William Strom who died in 1930;Kathryn Rogers of junction City; and Charles (Bob) Strom of Parkerville. As a young woman, she gave her life to Jesus and became a member of the Union Baptist Church at Parkerville. Always an active church worker, she helped organize the Children's Day programs and the first Vacation Bible Schools. She taught Sunday School and was church pianist until her husband's illness forced her to devote full time to caring for him. In later years she attended church as regularly as she was able. She dearly loved her home and family. Her flowers and a variety of hobbies gave her many hours of enjoyment. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 11, 1977; one son, John William, in 1930; her parents; and a brother, Vinton Mitchell. She leaves to mourn her passing, but with grateful memories of a good life, her three children, two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
