Description	:	LEWIS PIONEER BUTLER FARMER IS DEAD Gideon Capps Lewis, 87 years old, died Wednesday at his home on Route 1 Andover, from heart failure. Mr. Lewis had been a farmer in northwestern Butler county, for more than 41 years and came from Missouri to Greenwood County more than 47 years ago. He was a Civil War veteran and was a member of the Company I, 18th Illinois. He belonged to the Whitewater G. A. R. until it was disbanded. He was a member of the Palmyra Baptist Church. Read More	LEWIS PIONEER BUTLER FARMER IS DEAD Gideon Capps Lewis, 87 years old, died Wednesday at his home on Route 1 Andover, from heart failure. Mr. Lewis had been a farmer in northwestern Butler county, for more than 41 years and came from Missouri to Greenwood County more than 47 years ago. He was a Civil War veteran and was a member of the Company I, 18th Illinois. He belonged to the Whitewater G. A. R. until it was disbanded. He was a member of the Palmyra Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary this year. Beside his widow, he is survived by seven children, five having preceded him in death. Sons and Daughters include: Mrs. Millie Gale, Furley; Mrs. Lottie Phares, Andover; Mrs. Edith Newbury, Potwin; Tom Lewis, Whitewater; Ernest Lewis, Benton; Otis Lewis, Potwin; and W. L. Lewis, Wichita. He also leave one brother, Smith Lewis, of Salem Oregon, and 19 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the Palmyra Baptist Church near Benton, at 2 0’clock, Friday afternoon, with burial in the Union Cemetery. The Rev. Vernon Reffner, will officiate. The Smith Brothers Mortuary of Whitewater is in charge of arrangements.
