Highland Recorder November 20, 1953 Gideon Jesse Hiner, well known in this area and adjoining counties, died at his home at Monterey, at 8 p.m. Sunday, following a cerebral hemorrhage, suffered a week ago. He was born October 3, 1880. He was a member of the Monterey Methodist Church, a dirtor of the First & Citizens Bank & Trust Company and a member of the Board of Directors of the Highland County Stock Market. He always showed an interest In civic affairs and had his heart set upon the improvement of the cemetery which he saw accomplished. A son of the late Gideon Jones and Prances Lowman Hiner, he was born and spent his life in Monterey , and was a well known farmer. He had also indulged in timber and lumber business. Mr. Hiner was the last member of his family, two brothers and a sister having preceded him in death. His brothers were Tate Hiner of Marlinton. Dave Hiner and sister, Mrs. Elsie Hiner Stephenson of Monterey. He married Miss Eunice Lightner and they have three , daughters, Mrs. E. S. Solomon of Hot Springs, Mrs. Elsie Harold and Miss Elizabeth Frances Hiner at home. Besides his wife and daughters. Mr Hiner leaves two grandsons, Hal Douglas Harold of Monterey and Michael Hiner Solomon of Hot Springs, and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Monterey Methodist Church, as requested by the Rev. A. Hinkle Shumate of Dumfries and Monterey, assisted by his pastor, the Rev. Warren Landis, and the Rev. A. E. Johnson pastor of the Monterey Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow immediately in the Monterey cemetery.
