Description	:	According to Daughters of the American Revolution records, Gideon Johnson was born 12 Feb 1787 in Edgefield Co., SC to Burrell Johnson and his wife, Mary (maiden name not known). Gideon's father, Burrell served as a spy, saddler, artificer, and trooper during the Revolutionary War. Gideon married Nancy Sweat (12 Jul 1787-6 Nov 1856) on 5 Jan 1812 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Gideon's father, Burrell served as a spy, saddler, artificer, and trooper during the Revolutionary War. Gideon married Nancy Sweat (12 Jul 1787-6 Nov 1856) on 5 Jan 1812 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. After serving in the War of 1812 as a Sergeant in Austin's South Carolina Regiment, Gideon and family moved to Louisiana where they eventually settled in Rapides Parish. They were among the charter members of the Occupy Baptist Church when it was founded by Rev. Joseph Willis in June 1832. Gideon and Nancy had the following known children prior to Gideon's death from fever and Nancy's death from "dyspepsia."
