Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Garden with Military rites by the 40 et 8. Gilbert Michael Hofer was born August 16, 1916 in Chaseley, ND to Michael and Sahra (Miller) Hofer. He attended rural school and graduated from Hurdsfield High School in North Dakota. He attended Freeman Junior College in Freman, SD where he received a Teaching Certificate in 1939. The same year he moved to Huron, SD where he taught school until he entered the US Army 1942. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Austria where he was employed with the Military Intelligence Service until March 1948. On December 6, 1947 he married Margarete Czerny in Salzburg, Austria. In 1948, they came to Huron, SD where he taught school until 1958. Giblert was the manager of Huron American Legion Post 7 lounge and restaurant for 10 years. The couple owned and operated the Fair City Supply Company until he retired a few years ago. He was a member of Mount Olivet Mennonite Church, William Reaves American Legion Post 7, the 40 et 8, Post 1776 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Huron Elks Lodge 444. Survivors include his wife Margarete of Huron, a brother, Albert and his wife Mays of McAllen, TX, two sisters, Emma June Tschetter of Carpenter and Mrs. Robert (Edna) Baltzer of Huron and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Peter Albert. Pallbearers will be Harold Murphy, Len Vellek, Dr. EJ Colling, George Streifel, Caroll Ray and Tracy Gitchell.
