Description	:	Gilbert Myers Neal, 94, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, February 25, 2012, at the Waverly Health Center, in Waverly, Iowa of natural causes. Gilbert was born August 7, 1917, in Shell Rock, the son of Theo Leroy Neal and Hazel Lenore (Myers) Neal. He attended school at Shell Rock and graduated in 1935. Read More	Gilbert Myers Neal, 94, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, February 25, 2012, at the Waverly Health Center, in Waverly, Iowa of natural causes. Gilbert was born August 7, 1917, in Shell Rock, the son of Theo Leroy Neal and Hazel Lenore (Myers) Neal. He attended school at Shell Rock and graduated in 1935. Before graduating from school, Gilbert worked for farmers. Following graduation Gilbert delivered fuel for City Service, and then for Deep Rock, before to working for himself. He was a very hard working person. He retired in the early 1980's. On September 3, 1938, Gilbert was united in marriage to Ruth (Hickle) Neal at the home of Ruth's parents in Shell Rock. They made their home in Shell Rock and were married for over 56 years, until Ruth's death in 1995. Prior to becoming ill, Gilbert was a very active member of the Shell Rock United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed fishing, but most of all loved his family. He is survived by his three children; Richard A. (Karlene) Neal of Shell Rock, Iowa, Thomas J. (Betty) Neal of Shell Rock, Iowa, and Rita (Hank) Willson, of Shell Rock, Iowa, seven grandchildren; Andrea (Neal) Compton, Rebecca Nunley, Wesley Neal, Jason Neal, Amy (Neal) Davis, John Willson and Wayne Willson, and twelve great-grandchildren, Seth Nunley, Rachel Nunley, Mercy Neal, Josiah Neal, Henry Neal, David Willson, Lauren Willson, Maggie Willson, Brooke Willson, Benjamin Willson, Jacob Willson and Abby Willson, brother Burle (Janice) Neal, sister Marjory Maxon, and sister-in-law Adelia Escherhausen . He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, Brothers James and Wayne, and one sister Bernice Franck. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 2, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Dan Fernandez officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Friends may call at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock from 5 to 8 P.M. on Thursday, March 3, 2012, and at the church one hour before services on Friday. Memorials should be directed to the Shell Rock Historical Society or the Shell Rock Library.
