Obituary Gladys Nowak was born on December 22, 1910, to Andrew and Millie (Wilson) Toft on a farm east of Stickney and passed away July 24, 1985, at the Methodist hospital in Mitchell. She was baptized in 1911 and confirmed in 1927 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stickney. On December 22, 1928, she was united in marriage to Herman Nowak. One son, Robert Lee, was born to them. Herman and Gladys farmed in Douglas County for the first three years of their married life; then farmed in Aurora County until their retirement in 1971 when they moved to Stickney. Gladys was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 6554 of Plankinton and the American Legion Auxiliary of Stickney. For many years she was a member of the Two-Four Club and also served many years as secretary-treasurer of the Union Cemetery. Gladys is survived by her sister, Marie Kaus and husband, Matt, her brothers, Tom Toft and wife, Tillie, John Toft and wife, Goldie, and a sister-in-law, Anna Nowak. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, one sister and two infant brothers. Gladys was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
