Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 21, at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, with Rev. John Meyer and Janelle Siffring officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Gladys Elnora Draves, was born on November 6, 1919 at Waltham, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Jorges) Draves. She attended country school and graduated from the Dows High School. She married Carl Marker on February 19, 1939. They farmed in the Dows-Galt area until moving to a farm near Britt in 1948. Gladys was a farm wife and homemaker. She also worked as a seamstress at Stitchcraft in Forest City and as a cook at the Woden-Crystal Lake School. She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, camping, traveling, youth activities and was always a welcoming hostess to neighbors, friends and family. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Woden and then First Lutheran Church of Britt. She was a member of the women of the church, band mothers, PTA and served on various committees. She and Carl were members of the Silver Stars senior group. She was an advocate for health and social concerns for seniors. This led to her recognition as an Outstanding Senior Citizen from Governor, Terry Branstad. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Arnold; grandsons, Aaron and Eric Kipp; brothers, Arthur, Carl, Clarence, Harry and Anton Draves; and sister, Edna Eccles. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Janet (Greg) Kipp of New Richmond, Wisconsin; son, Douglas of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Timothy (Laura) Marker of Jackson, Minnesota, Thomas (Colleen) Marker of Mason, Illinois, Andrea Jo (Jon) Green of New Richmond and Kathryne Marker of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Emily and John Marker of Jackson and Danielle and Rebecca Marker of Mason; brother, Emil Draves of Webster City; and sisters, Hilda Jury of Ankeny and Estella State of Belmond.
