Description	:	Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," Friday, March 10, 1972: Gladys E. Meier Mrs. Gladys E. Meier, 70, of 329 W. Rochester Road, died Thursday at 11:50 a.m. at St. Joseph Hospital following a long illness. She was born Oct. 19, 1901, in Davis County, the daughter of John and Amanda Jones Garrett. She had lived in Ottumwa since 1925, and was a member of the Davis Street Christian Church and Myrah Rebekah Lodge. She was married to William O. Covert Sept. 28, 1918. He died in 1958. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Hazel McFarling of Agency; two sons, Earl and Wally Covert, both of Ottumwa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Strong of Sigourney and Mrs. Darla Jones of Richardson, Tex.; five step-grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Reva Cassidy of Des Moines, and Mrs. Pearl Rosenbalm of Ottumwa; and two brothers, Kenneth Garrett of Moline, Ill., and Clayton Garrett of Floris. She was preceded in death by one grandchild and three brothers. The service will be Saturday at 1:30 at the Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil I. Simonton of the Davis Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Matthew, Joe Pearson, Deb Stater, Ernest Mayers, and Cloyd and Loren Hagedon.
