Description	:	Gladys Hazel Lueking, 89 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Harlan County Health Systems in Alma, Nebraska. Gladys was born on the family farm southwest of Atlanta, Nebraska on October 14, 1921 in Phelps County, Nebraska, the seventh of nine children born to Nels A. and Gusta (Wahl) Lavene. Read More	Gladys Hazel Lueking, 89 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Harlan County Health Systems in Alma, Nebraska. Gladys was born on the family farm southwest of Atlanta, Nebraska on October 14, 1921 in Phelps County, Nebraska, the seventh of nine children born to Nels A. and Gusta (Wahl) Lavene. Gladys grew up on the same farm where she was born and attended grade school in Harlan County, Nebraska. Gladys graduated from Atlanta High School with the class of 1939. Following graduation, she remained on the farm and assisted her parents. She was baptized and became a member of the Atlanta Methodist Church and later joined the St. John's Lutheran Church of Oxford. On July 5, 1944 she was united in marriage to Bernard W. Lueking and to this union five children were born: Jerry, James, Clyde, Bonnie and Robbin. The family made their home on a farm north of Oxford. In 1948 they purchased the farm north of Oxford that Bernard's grandfather had homesteaded. Gladys continued to reside on this farm until her passing. She loved farm life and had a special place in her heart for all animals. On January 10, 1996 she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Craig Lueking in 1994; one great-granddaughter, Macy Weatherwax in 2006; six sisters and two brothers. She leaves to mourn her passing her three sons: Jerry Lueking and his wife, Carolyn of Oxford, Jim Lueking and his wife, Shari of Oxford, Clyde Lueking and his wife, Marlene of Holdrege; two daughters: Bonnie Percival and her husband, Doug, of Oxford and Robbin Thayn and her husband, Robert of Oxford; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; three step great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
