She died August 6, 2010, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 4 days. Gladys was born at home on the family farm located northeast of Ricketts, Iowa. Read More	Gladys Johanna Ottilie (Schwarz) Keim was born November 4, 1917, the second daughter of Carl F. and Rosa Bohlmann Schwarz. She died August 6, 2010, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 4 days. Gladys was born at home on the family farm located northeast of Ricketts, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, located east of Ricketts and attended grade school at Morgan No. 9 through the 8th grade. As a young woman, as was the custom, she worked as a hired girl for several families in the area. Although World War II postponed their marriage, Gladys and William S. Keim were married on January 21, 1946. They settled down to married life in Charter Oak, Iowa, and were blessed with the birth of a son, Donald, and a daughter, Nancy. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and one who cared deeply for her extended family. She found contentment in the simple joys of everyday living, liked to read, and was always interested in bettering life for herself and others with new thoughts and ideas. Gladys had a particularly kind and loving spirit and an infectious giggle. She adored "kids" of all ages and was always ready for fun and laughter, and because she enjoyed being with people, found happiness in working for her sister in the Bowling Alley in Ricketts for many years. After her husband passed away in 1989, she spent several years living the majority of the time with her son in Denver, Colorado, with intermittent stays with her daughter in California and her home in Iowa. In 1998, she returned to Iowa and entered the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, where she lived, endearing herself to many on the staff until she became ill shortly before her death. During her years at Eventide, her Iowa family was particularly devoted to making her life there as pleasant as possible. They visited often, kept a bird feeder outside her window well stocked, and took her outside on holidays and family get-togethers. Her sister Laura was particularly faithful to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; and one sister, Esther Schnoor. Survivors include her son, Donald and his wife, Fae; her daughter, Nancy and her husband, John; three grandchildren: Jeni and her husband, John; Nick and his wife, Teresa; Angie; and great-grandsons; one sister, Laura; sister-in-law, Narlean; special niece, Marjorie and her husband, Allan; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service with graveside rites at the Charter Oak Cemetery in Charter Oak.
