Description	:	Longtime valley resident Gladys Cornelius passed away Saturday, 25 Jun 2011, peacefully at her home. She was 75. Gladys was born on 5 Aug 1935 in Hastings, NE. She married her high school sweetheart, Marvin, in 1952 where they began their lives together. They started their family with the births of Melvin in 1953 and Debra in 1954. Gladys was born on 5 Aug 1935 in Hastings, NE. She married her high school sweetheart, Marvin, in 1952 where they began their lives together. They started their family with the births of Melvin in 1953 and Debra in 1954. Gladys then moved with her husband to Utah in 1955 to begin a new chapter in her life. There she increased her family with the birth of Richard in 1956. In 1959 Gladys and her family moved to San Diego, CA area where her husband accepted a job with the government. Her final move in 1964 brought her to the Ridgecrest, CA area where she began working as a waitress for the Midway Cafe before accepting a job with the NAWS Chief Petty Officers Club as a food server. She was very active in her community and made numerous friends throughout her 30-year career. After she retired in 1992, Gladys enjoyed the things she loved like playing Bingo, Bunko and cards with friends and family. She was also a great cook. She enjoyed life and spent time with her grandchildren every chance she could and was always the life of the party. She will be truly missed by all whose hearts and lives she touched. Gladys was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Tjarks, her brothers Ernie Tjarks, Roland Tjarks, Robert Tjarks and Carl Tjarks. Gladys is survived by her sons Melvin Cornelius of Ridgecrest; Richard Cornelius and wife Margaret of Ridgecrest; daughter Debra Cornelius of Ridgecrest; her sister Alice Dyer of Nebraska; brother Bob Tjarks of Nebraska; her grandchildren Rainy Mickelsen of Utah; Shanna Norman of Utah; Jason Cornelius of Ridgecrest; Nathan Cornelius of Ridgecrest; Rachelle Charlon of Ridgecrest; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
