Hennessey was born on Aug. 24, 1912, to Irvin and Maud (Stephenson) Fellows on a homestead at Perkins County, S.D. She passed away May 19, 2004, at Hearthstone Nursing home in York at the age of 91 years. She was the second daughter in a family of six. She came with her parents to Geneva at the age of two, where most of her early years were spent. She attended Geneva Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1930. On March 11, 1943, she was married to Earl D. Hennessey at Chandler, Ariz., and to this union a daughter, Cheryl Sue was born. Earl passed away in September of 1987. Gladys made her home in York since 1971. In 1997, Gladys moved to the Mahoney House, an assisted-living facility, and since October, 2003 has resided at the Hearthstone. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Silver Link Rebekah Lodge of Geneva and the American Legion Auxiliary of Geneva. Gladys loved working in her church as long as her health permitted. She loved her home life and enjoyed doing fancy work and reading. Gladys also loved watching the Huskers and her Braves baseball. Her daughter, Cheryl Sue Hennessy, sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and James Cecil, brother, Glenn Fellows, and many nieces, nephews and friends, survive her. Her parents, Irvin T. and Maud Fellows; sisters, Aldean, Carol and Frances and her husband, Earl preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 24 with Rev. W. Ronald Johnson officiating. Speaking at her services was Nelda Trisco. Casket bearers were Brian Cellar, P.R. Farmer, Leo Hennessey, Dick McKenzie, Tom Schmitz and Terry Watt. Music was provided by Leila Barker, who accompanied herself on the guitar and sang “Beyond the Sunset”, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden”. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal June 9th, 2004 page 14.
