Description	:	Gladys Lucille (Spilde) Borsheim was born Nov. 15, 1909, the daughter of Henry and Johannah (Gjetley) Spilde on the family farm near Decorah. She was baptized Dec. 19, 1909 and confirmed March 23, 1924 both at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. She attended the Dobney country school in Pleasant Township and helped on her family farm. She was a 4-H member in her younger years, and married Elmer Borsheim on Jan. 11, 1928 in Decorah. To this union, seven children were born: Verl, Mavis, Merton, Elaine, Janice, Ronald and Elton. Read More	Gladys Lucille (Spilde) Borsheim was born Nov. 15, 1909, the daughter of Henry and Johannah (Gjetley) Spilde on the family farm near Decorah. She was baptized Dec. 19, 1909 and confirmed March 23, 1924 both at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. She attended the Dobney country school in Pleasant Township and helped on her family farm. She was a 4-H member in her younger years, and married Elmer Borsheim on Jan. 11, 1928 in Decorah. To this union, seven children were born: Verl, Mavis, Merton, Elaine, Janice, Ronald and Elton. Gladys Borsheim was a busy mother and also served as a 4-H leader for the Freeport Good Luck Girls. She enjoyed traveling, going on bus trips, playing Bingo, sewing, crocheting, knitting and bowling. She also enjoyed volunteering at the First Lutheran Church, serving as a deaconess, helping on "do days", the Nordic Fest, ladies circle and making quilts. Gladys Borsheim was also recognized by Governor Terry Branstad by being an outstanding volunteer. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Oneota Rebekah Lodge #175. Gladys Borsheim was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer Jan. 13, 1978; one son, Verl Borsheim; one grandson, Roger Dale Engelhardt; two great-grandchildren: Wade Drievold and Tiffany Monroe; one sister, Helen McConaughay; four brothers: Harold Spilde, Leonard Spilde, Myron Spilde and wife Crystal and Lester Spilde; three brothers-in-law: Julias Huseby, Jim Rindahl and Charles McConaughay
